Walking Duck

You’ll need:

1 12x18x1-inch pine board
1 old automobile tire inner-tube
30” of a 7/16-inch dowel
4” of a 1-inch dowel
Paint of various colours
White glue

Using the pattern as a guide, draw the duck’s body on the pine board approximately 3 inches in diameter. Cut parts out with a jigsaw or sabre saw. Sand and paint.

Cut off 3 inchs from the end of the 7/16-inch dowel. This becomes the axle for the wheels. Drill a 7/16-inch hole through the centre of the wheels. Attach the axle dowel through one wheel, the duck and the other wheel. Next, attach the shaft. Bore a 7/16-inch hole into the top of the duck’s back at a 45-degree angle. Insert the 27” length of dowel into the hole. Drill a 7/16” hole into the centre of the 1-inch dowel. Fit this handle on the shaft.

Cut wings and feet from the inner-tube using the pattern. Attach wings to the body by sliding them into openings cut ¾-inch below centre of back as shown in the pattern. Attach feet by making a ¾-inch cut in the sides of each wheel. Insert the foot and glue.
